Technologies on autonomous vehicles
Camera: Cameras are used on autonomous vehicles to collect image of road users, traffic signs and other obstacles.

Lidar: Lidar generates 3D geoinformation mapping by comparing the differences of sent pulses and reflected pulses in laser return times and wavelength.

GPS (Global Positioning System): The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a technology that utilizes three or more satellites to transmit precise signals, allowing GPS receivers to calculate and display accurate location, speed, and time information.

Infrared: Infrared technology will find contrasts and contours of obstacles well beyond that of a camera.

DMS (Driving Monitoring System): when danger is detected, the DMS notify the driver with flash or sounds if the sensor found the driver is focused on the road while swith on security mode if the driver is absent-minded.

2. Driving Monitoring System

Mechanism of DMS
     
       Driving Monitoring System was first introduced by Toyota in 2006 and now many famous auto companies have included DMS in their vehicles. Lots of companies have provided solutions to install DMS into already-exist vehicles. So far, DMS is able to installed in all kinds of vehicles and integrate with fleet management system, which means driving efficiency can be boosted and the cost will go down. DMS has the following advantages:
(1) Reduce the risk of car accidents.
(2) Work at different conditions including all kinds of weathers and light environment.
(3)Low power consumption.
(4)Extendable integration with other systems.
However, DMS has its drawbacks. For example, the accuracy of measuring physical state of drivers may not be satisfying all the time. A process of intelligent learning is needed to analyze if the driver is sleepy or not.
DMS is developing steadily and fast. However, it's going to be accepted more widely if the measurement of driver's state can be more accurate. Also, collaboration with communication module, which makes it possible to send detailed driving information to driver's family,  is a practical idea for future development.
